Science fiction novels aren't selling eh? That's news to me. Cormac McCarthy's The Road was science fiction. Frank Herbert's Dune has sold around the same number as The Lord Of The Rings. James Patterson and Stephen King are writing science fiction now, and King's Under The Dome, which I have preordered and is the number one seller on amazon, is due out soon. None of these I would consider Steam Punk, which is border-lining a fad more than a genre.

Fear not, Sue--I am not yet past hope.

I will always enjoy reading, but I do admit...books have to work a little harder these days to keep my inner editor from speaking up! =)

Ash,

Sad that your love of reading has led you to a place where you no longer read for the pure enjoyment of it.

Oh this is so timely as I've pondered much of the same on genre and where does my writing fit! It's difficult to 'write with your heart' without thinking of all the criteria/guidelines/rules of each genre :) Love the post!

Lisa Colón DeLay has an update that the release date for Tyndale's new publication of the Bible (Holy Bible: Mosaic) is now 9/22! This edition is unlike anything that ever been published, with beautiful artwork from the 3rd to the 21st century, from every continent, writings from every Christian faith tradition, a devotional with mediations that follow the Christian year-starting at Advent, word study helps, Greek and Hebrew lexicons, and more. Lisa has is a contributing author for one of the meditations, on the subject of the Trinity. See this link http://wp.me/pri9O-dH at her blogsite http://LifeAsPrayer.wordpress.com for more information, and the link for Tyndale Publishers inside track to get goodies, updates, and prize $.

Oh my goodness, how funny is that?! I was thinking the SAME thing about your name... familiar, unique... I'm glad you made the connection for us. I really enjoyed your piece - it was so cool to read a new POV.

I heartily agree about Jason Evans' contests... We must have passed each other at The Clarity of Night on several occasions! My only regret this time around is that I've only had time to read the first 80 entries... I must go back to finish this week.

Thanks for visiting Precie, and NICELY DONE!

Jade! OMG, THAT's why your name was so familiar to me on the entry list! Can't believe I didn't realize the connection.

The Clarity of Night contests are always great fun. It's a wonderfully supportive group of writers. I've participated in several of them, and the entry list grows by leaps and bounds.
